With the third FANATICO X album Beneath Your Feet, new on GMO – The Label, Mathias Schaffhäuser and Jorge Socarrás traverse a wide musical swath both stylistically and temporally.

The rhythmic expedition begins with the title song invoking earthy urgency in a world gone berserk, while The End’s Real Trait playfully proposes not giving in to fatalism. Poems by two different Fredericks, Nietzsche and Garcia Lorca, serve as departure points for lyrical expressiveness in Oh to Roam and Y Despues; and a museum of antique musical instruments surreally comes to life in Speelklokken. The album also covers two songs from different decades: Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit (1967), taking it down a darker pulsing path; and Searching, the 1987 song from Socarras’ former band Indoor Life, revving it up with Hi-NRG attitude as Still Searching. There’s more soulful romantic musing to be had on Fall for You, including a guest appearance by pedal steel guitarist and former Indoor Life member Bob Hoffnar, who also appeared on the previous FANATICO X album, Love and Dancing on the Brink.

With Beneath Your Feet, FANATICOX once again invites listeners to dance to the beat of a different drum. And the album not only continues the story of FANATICO X, but also the one Mathias started last year on GMO with Singing About It. His tenth solo album was a logical continuation of the first two FANATICO X albums, which had inspired Mathias to write songs again after many years of club-orientated productions.
